My proposal =)

My group consists of Hannah, Nicki and myself. Personally i have decided to focus on fashion with a link to advertising.

I have spent time researching fashion photographers such as Danielle Horn and Christopher Simms, however i have found that the most useful and inspiring rsearch source has been catalogues and magazines, both higher and lower ends of the market.

I love these images, i think they're fun and suggestive yet gamerous and classy and so would appeal to a target audience of young women, possibly students. The images show the models having a good time which students would really relate to, and so these images in particualr have inspired me a great deal due to me wanting my shoot to display the fashion as fun and upbeat rather than formal etc. I think this appraoch would make the fashion being advertised seem more accessible for my target audience.

Lighting
To me, high key lighting would not set the atmosphere and feel i am looking for. for my shoot, it is typical of catalogues and sometimes lacks creativity. However some high key lighting images i came across were fun due to the stances of the models etc....

I want some shadow, and so the majority of my shoot will be shot using mid-key lighting , possibly using filters to create more atmosphere. This decision was influenced by images i found in magazines that really appealed to me...

Models and Props.
In terms of models, i will be using a couple of my house mates that are able to fit into lighting studio scheduling. They will be asked to bring at least 5 different outfits each (of their own clothes due to them all having ther own funky, glamerous styles). I may also ask some of my friends that are fashion students to lend me some of their items for the shoot. Georgia Lucas -Going, who i will be using a model will also be in charge of hair and make up of my models.
In each image i plan to have more than one model as i think the interaction will add to the fun upbeat atmosphere of the shoot.

Props i will be using will mainly be objects suggesing and creating a "party" atmosphere eg wine glasses, bottles, balloons etc.
Props will also help me with my approach to the interior/exterior theme in some way, for example the walk home...traffic cones, road signs etc.

Here is an example of low key lighting. I love the dramatic and stylish effect this level of lighting gives and it is the kind of feel i want to convey in my shoots. However, this lighting would not be ideal for fashion advertisement due to the products not being visible enough-for example a catalogue shoot would use high key lighting.

I like how one eye is hidden in this photograph, it makes it look a little dark and dangerous as opposed to what "perfect light" could have made possible and visible. When i look at this image. there are 3 points where my eyes enter the photo and find the center of interest; the models eyes, the curvature of the trucker hat which creates the shadow under her jaw line and then the lines created by her hair.

I like Horns unusual stances of her models, it makes the shot become slightly abstract. I think it would be interesting for her to shoot with mid or low key lighting because i think her models would create some interesting shadows.
I don't think there is enough cntrast between the background and model...in my work i would like to create situations etc in order to make the model more accessible to the viewer, for example i would like to create a shoot in a bar, or party so that the target audience ( im thinking late teens, early twenties) can relate more to the model and image as a whole.
